18th - 25th June 2010 - Trading Places Challenge

The Fredericks Foundation has teamed up with Hazelwoods and Rickerbys in Gloucestershire for the Trading Places Challenge.
For one week volunteers at both companies will live on ‘benefits’. For a single person that means £65.45, for couples £102.75, plus £25 for each child.
We hope this experience will give a better understanding of how millions of Britons live and the important work Fredericks  is doing to help people build a better life for themselves and their families.

Rules of Engagement

On the Friday, participants will withdraw £65.45 from their bank accounts.  That is all they have to spend for personal travel, food and drink, entertainment, phone charges,  cable tv , clothing, newspapers, coffee, etc.

We expect everyone to put away their credit cards and cheque  books for the entire week.

Of course there will be exceptions for emergencies and travel to/from work, basically anything that is required with their jobs will be allowed.  But anything they use from home should be replenished, i.e they will not be allowed to do a big shop for food the day before the challenge starts.

At the end of the week everyone will presumably have saved quite a bit of money.  We would encourage everyone to donate that amount (or a portion of it) to support Fredericks ongoing efforts.

Join the Challenge

We encourage anyone interested in taking the Challenge to join in - this week or anytime.  For more information or help getting started, contact Christine at christine@fredericksfoundation.net.

GOOD LUCK!
